Who else wants to know the history of the festival of Halloween?

Halloween is one of the renown and interesting festivals celebrated all around the globe. The excitement of individuals all around the planet is always at its peak when it’s about Halloween. The festival includes a number of significant aspects ranging from Halloween costumes to Halloween sweets, Halloween parties to storytelling and a lot more.

History of Halloween:

The history of Halloween originates back from 2000 years ago. The idea was first initialized and propagated in the Celtic festival of Samhain. The celebration of this festival started with the intention of celebrating the existence of unnatural and supernatural figures on the Earth. People dressed up in distinctive clothes and set bonfires to burn their crops and all in order to feed the ghosts giving them a reason for not harming them.

The Halloween was not much commonly celebrated in America until the middle of the 19th century. The bases which form the cause of the propagation of the idea of this festival in the USA includes a large number of immigrants who migrated to the country at a different set of times.  [1]

The pumpkin patches and pumpkin carvings:

Pumpkins are one of the most important elements of Halloween. There are a number of farms established in rural areas where the pumpkins are stocked in October. So, the people can reach to them easily for selecting their pumpkin for the carving.

Personally we got a chance to visit one of the so famous pumpkin patches in Kendall, Florida. It was a fun day! We got to walk up and down rows and rows until we found our perfect pumpkin. And trust us, you really want a perfect pumpkin to carve!

Now, the question is that why do people go for pumpkin carving? Well, this idea dawns back from the Celts, thousands of years back. The belief of carving the pumpkin and placing the candle inside it stands on the grounds of making the evil spirits or ghosts go away without harming the ones. [2]

Trick or Treat:

With no doubt, the Halloween festival is incomplete for the children without the trick or treat. It is one of the patterns of the celebration of Halloween. The idea of this segment revolves around the children asking for sweets going door to door, in order to compensate for them not doing the tricks on the respective house.

Though, it was not always about candies. Before the 1930s, children used to get homemade cookies or treats. But, with the advertising and marketing techniques for promoting candies for the festival, it shifted more towards candies than cookies and nuts. [3]

Candy preferences are different all around the US:

The different parts of the US have their own set of candy preferences of the festival of Halloween.

The preferences range from Reese’s cups in Kansas to Skittles in Hawaii and California, Twix in Alaska and Colorado to M&M’s in Ohio, Candy corn in Nevada and Iowa to Snickers in Mississippi and a lot more. [4]

Company’s preparations for Halloween:

Every candy company starts preparing for Halloween way back, sometimes even two years back in order to make sure that every part of it remains in the ultimate place and level.

Some companies even have a set of workers whose only task is to prepare and make sure that the preparations of the Halloween candies remain on-point and perfect. [5]

So, have you got enough candy for distributing among the children? Make sure you do, in order to save yourself and your home from the tricks…
